To my mother iii ACKNOWLEDGMENTS I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to everyone who helped make this dissertation possible. First and foremost, I would like to thank my advisor, Professor Vincent J. Mooney III, for his patience and guidance during my graduate study at Georgia Tech. With his knowledge and experience, he has guided me to achieve my research objective. I truly admire him for all his encouragement he has given me throughout this process. He was always there when I needed him. Professor Karsten Schwan, for their critical evaluation and valuable suggestions for fine tuning the focus of my dissertation. Third, I would like to thank all members of the Codesign group for their friendship and support, especially, Mohamed A. Shalan and Tankut Akgul who are coauthors of a number of the conference papers. We had many good times together at conferences and had many interesting conversions during lunch times.
